Ted Cogan (Rob Lowe), a United States National Guard captain in Iraq , issues orders that result in the death of innocent people. Soon he is injured and falls into a coma. When he wakes up he is returned home, finding himself haunted by visions of the dead. As he starts spiraling into insanity (losing his family in the process), he hires a psychic to help him figure out the cause of his horrible dreams. He begins to realize what measures he will have to take to stop the visions, and what price he will have to pay for his freedom.
