Lizzie (Emily Mortimer) is a single mother who is constantly moving herself and Frankie (Jack McElhone) to avoid being found by his father. Instead of telling Frankie the truth about his father, she has told him that his father is a sailor on the HMS Accra. To supplement this tale, she writes Frankie every few weeks as if she were his father, telling Frankie of all the adventures he has while sailing around the world. To Frankie’s delight, the real HMS Accra is sailing into town; it is up to Lizzie to decide if she wants to tell Frankie the truth of their situation or to hire a stranger (Gerard Butler) to pose as Frankie’s father.
